Profits Belong to You

The low rates are a direct result of not-for-profit, member-owned structure.

Join the Movement

Membership is open to all residents of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.

Powering All Your Transportation

They offer the same great co-op financing for cars, boats, RVs, and motorcycles.

  • It All Starts with Membership: Your Share in the Co-op+

To access our loans, an individual first becomes a member-owner. This isn’t an exclusive club; it’s a community. If a person lives, works, or worships anywhere in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, they are eligible to join us. An initial five-dollar deposit in a savings account isn’t a fee; it’s a person’s ownership share in our cooperative. It represents their voice in our financial community.

  • Lower Rates Through Cooperation, Not Profits+

Because we are a not-for-profit institution, our primary goal isn’t to generate profits for distant stockholders. It is to return value directly to our U.S. members. That is why our auto loan rates for both new and used vehicles are consistently some of the lowest available. We believe in providing affordable financing that helps our members and our shared community thrive.

  • The Get Green Loan: Investing in Shared Environment+

Their community is all of Michigan, and CCU believes in protecting it. The “Get Green” loan is their cooperative’s commitment to that principle. When a member finances a qualifying fuel-efficient or electric vehicle with us, we reward that community-minded choice with a 0.25% interest rate discount. It’s a tangible way we can work together for a cleaner, healthier home state.

  • Refinancing: A Neighbor Helping a Neighbor+

Is a member paying too much on a loan from a large, out-of-state bank? They see that as an opportunity for our cooperative to help. Refinancing a car loan with Consumers Credit Union can lower a member’s monthly payment and helps keep more money right here in our local Michigan economy. It is the principle of “people helping people” put into direct action.

Traditional Bank Financing vs. CCU

While major banks like Wells Fargo or PNC offer dependable fixed-rate auto loans and in-branch service, they often involve stricter approval criteria and less flexibility. Consumers Credit Union, as a not-for-profit member organization, delivers lower rates, quick funding, and personalized help, along with features like AutoPay discounts and online calculators that streamline the experience.

Consumers Credit Union Auto Financing

CCU’s auto loans include:

  • Soft-pull prequalification—so you can check your estimated rates without hurting your credit
  • No fee origination—CCU doesn’t charge processing fees .
  • AutoPay discount of 0.25% APR and an additional 0.50% discount when you buy through their Car Buying Service powered by TrueCar  .
  • Same-day funding in many cases, with flexible loan terms up to 90 months  .
  • Extensive vehicle acceptance—no limits on mileage, age, or price (up to $100,000+) .
  • Skip-a-payment feature twice annually and complimentary GAP and mechanical repair coverage options.

These offerings create a friendly, flexible loan environment ideal for a wide range of buyers.

Online Lenders & Dealer Marketplaces

Platforms like LightStream and LendingTree give quick rate comparisons and digital convenience, but CCU stands out by integrating its financing with TrueCar-powered pricing tools—letting you compare dealership offers, lock in your price, and finance all in one reliable ecosystem.

Unsecured Personal Loans vs. Secured Auto Loans

Personal loans are flexible and may work for private-party transactions, but usually cost more in APR and carry shorter terms  . CCU’s secured auto loans, backed by the vehicle, typically offer lower APRs, longer repayment periods, and better value—with the added benefit of rate discounts and loan tools tailored for car purchases.

Buy Here, Pay Here Dealerships vs. CCU

BHPH dealers offer in-lot loans for buyers with limited credit, but these often bring high interest rates, hidden fees, and weak consumer protections. Consumers Credit Union, in contrast, provides transparent lending, credit-building reporting, and access to financial benefits like GAP and repair coverage—protecting both your loan and your wallet.

How Auto Loans Impact Your Finances and Credit Score in the U.S.

With CCU, you can prequalify with a soft credit pull—no initial impact on your FICO score  . Finalizing the loan triggers a hard inquiry, but it’s grouped with others made in a short timeframe. Consistent, on-time payments boost your credit history and improve your Debt-to-Income (DTI) ratio, key for future financing. Late payments, however, carry a 10-day grace period before penalties and could harm credit. Using AutoPay, skip-payment allowances, and other tools can help maintain financial control.
